I’m holed up in my bedroom when I should be downstairs attacking the mess that has accumulated in my kitchen sink. I’ve gotten really good at cleaning while I cook, but last night when I was in the kitchen some other household dishes had piled up, making my in and out cleaning more difficult. So I just kinda put it off for today. But it’s insane the amount of dish washing I have done in the past few days. Environmentally, it would be a smart move to invest in a new dish washer. My mother always hated using dishwashers because she felt that they were wasteful. And back when she formed that opinion it was true. But in recent years dishwasher technology has improved to the point that you waste more water hand washing dishes than you do using a dishwasher. This statistic would not prove true in our household however. When my parents bought this house a few years ago, the existing dishwasher was already an antique. My father probably ran it twice before my mother decommissioned it. It now serves as cabinetry, holding dishes that are seldom used. But every now and again, when the sink gets full of dishes, I look at that antique and vow that if I had dish washing detergent I would run it.
Last night’s addition to the maddening pile of dishes was from finally making VeganDad’s lunchmeat. And the actual mess was my fault as I kept doubting whether or not all those ingredients would actually fit in my blender. So I would move it from container to container. But in the end everything did actually fit in my blender. I just barely had enough foil to wrap the dough in, so towards the end of the cooking process, it actually burst. In the end, my log of lunch meat started to collapse in on itself when it cooled. I know that some of this was to be expected, but I think the marked chill in the air also contributed to this. The “meat” itself came out pretty tasty. A bit more like smoked chicken meat than anything else. I sliced about 1/3 of it for the fridge and wrapped up the rest to put in the freezer. I’ll have lunch meat for a long time to come. Sorry. No pictures. My camera is acting up. But the lunch meat isn’t all that photogenic anyways. Perhaps the second time around.
